& just like they abandon dogs in a shelter

right where her mother left her

she waits anxiously in her cage for the day someone finally decides to bring her home

& if you decide to love me

the only thing i’ll ever constantly fear is being given away

for sometimes behaving like a stray

& unconsciously biting the hand that fed me & showing my teeth

It’s fascinating how people can find animals who’ve been abandoned, abused, mistreated and starved in a shelter and love them back to life with attention, patience and care.

I often wish there was a place like that for humans.
